The Volunteer Portal is a public website that allows your volunteers to view and sign up for engagements within your organization. You can control the layout of your volunteer portal to customize the view of your volunteer portal using the tools on this page.
Volunteers who visit your site can browse the portal without logging in or they can log in to your volunteer portal. The Public View and Logged In View icons to the left of the Preview button let you change between customizing the Public View (which is what users see when they are not logged in) and the Logged In View (which is what users see when they are logged in to the volunteer portal. You are able to create a customized view for both.
The Preview button gives you the option of previewing what your volunteer portal looks like on a mobile, tablet, or desktop device. This preview can help you optimize the layout of your volunteer portal for each user experience.
The View Live button will launch your actual volunteer portal in a new browser window.
Below the Preview button, you will see the Volunteer Portal URL. This is the website address that volunteers can use to find your volunteer portal. You are able to modify the ending part of the website address. Donor Management will set a default value for this website address. If you want to change it, click on the pencil icon at the end of the website address and set it to the desired value. Click the check icon to save this change. If you have already informed the public of this address and made a change, you will need to let them know of the change.
The rest of the page is the main part of the volunteer portal layout. This content area is made up of rows and within each row is a widget. A widget contains specific features that provide capabilities or information for your volunteer portal.
Note: The top widget is an image banner. This widget is required and can not be moved or removed.
By hovering your mouse over the top area of the content area, you will see an orange outline and a blue outline.
The orange line is the row area. When hovering your mouse over the row area, you will see a delete icon and an arrow icon. The delete icon can be clicked to delete the row which will remove the row and any widgets contained within it from your volunteer portal layout. You can rearrange (move up or down) a row by clicking and holding the arrow icon and dragging it up or down on the screen.
The blue outline is the widget area. In the lower right corner of the widget area, there will be various options depending on the type of widget. All widgets will have a delete icon that can be used to remove the widget from the row.
You can add a new row by clicking the + Add Row link at the bottom of the content area. When adding a row, you will have the option to add a one-, two-, or three-widget row. After you add a new row, any widgets can be defined by clicking the Choose Type link in the lower right corner of the widget.
You can choose from the following widget types:
- Custom Text - use to put basic text on your portal layout.
- Image - use to place an image on your portal layout.
