Back Up Process
Backing up your GiftWorks database will ensure that you always have a copy of your GiftWorks information. This process will create a backup of the SQL Server database.
Click on the Settings icon /Click on Importing, Exporting and Data Management /Click on Manage your GiftWorks Database / Click on Back up the Database
Choose a name for the back up file at Step 1 Choose a location to save the GiftWorks Backup File at Step 2 This can be the default SQL server location or a custom location you choose Click on Backup Now Click Ok when the backup is complete Your back up file will have a .bak file extension
Note: If you have the GiftWorks File Storage feature turned on, the back up process will NOT back up the File Storage Folder. This folder needs to be backed up separately. It would be good practice to back up the File Storage Folder every time you back up GiftWorks Pro to ensure that the backups match in the event that a restore of both is required. To check the GiftWorks File Storage Folder location: Go to Settings / Organization Options and Setup / Configure your GiftWorks File Storage
Restore Process
The steps and screenshots below are using Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition 2012. The screens may vary based on your version of Microsoft SQL Server. There is not a restore option within GiftWorks Pro. The restore process is done within Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. This tool is included as an option in the installation file for most Microsoft SQL Server Editions. If you have Microsoft SQL Server installed but did not already install the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio tool you will need to install it in order to restore your SQL database. Sign out of GiftWorks Open the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio tool and connect to the Microsoft SQL Server.
Click the + sign beside the Databases folder
Right click on the database that you want to restore Choose Tasks Choose Restore Choose Database
Choose Device Click on the ellipsis (the button)
Click on Add
Find your back up file (.bak file) Click on it and click OK
Click Ok again
Click on Verify Backup Media button
Click OK
Click OK when done.
