If clicking "View Draft" in GiftWorks Mailings produces no file, shows a blank page, or the download never starts, this article covers the most common causes and fixes.
Step 1. Check Your Browser's Pop-Up Blocker
GiftWorks generates mailing drafts as PDF or Word files that open in a new tab or trigger a download. If your browser is blocking pop-ups from the GiftWorks domain, the file will silently fail to open.
Look for a pop-up blocked notification in your browser's address bar (usually a small icon on the right side).
Click it and select Always allow pop-ups from [your GiftWorks URL].
Try View Draft again.
Step 2. Check That a Template Is Assigned
A mailing must have a letter template assigned before a draft can be generated. In the mailing setup, confirm that a template appears under Template. If it shows blank or "None selected," assign a template and try again.
Step 3. Try a Different File Format
If View Draft works for one format but not another (e.g., PDF generates but Word doesn't), you may have a missing application or a permissions issue with that file type:
PDF not generating: Make sure a PDF viewer (Adobe Acrobat, Chrome's built-in viewer) is set as the default for .pdf files on your computer.
Word not generating: Make sure Microsoft Word or a compatible application is installed. If using GiftWorks Anywhere (Citrix), Word must be available in the Citrix session.
Step 4. Clear Browser Cache
Cached session data can interfere with file generation. Clear your browser's cache and cookies (Ctrl+Shift+Delete on Windows, Cmd+Shift+Delete on Mac), then log back into GiftWorks and retry.
Step 5. Check for Constituent Data in the SmartList
If your mailing's recipient list (SmartList) returns zero results, the draft will be blank or not generate. Verify that your SmartList has at least one result before generating the draft.
If None of the Above Worked
Contact support and include:
Your GiftWorks version (Help > About GiftWorks)
Whether you're using GiftWorks Desktop or Anywhere (Citrix)
The file format you're trying to generate (PDF or Word)
