Let's Learn:
Discount codes let you offer reduced-price or complimentary tickets to specific guests. This article explains how discount code deep-links work, why they sometimes don't pre-fill at checkout, and how to verify purchases in your reports.
How Discount Code Deep-Links Work
When you create a discount code, BiddingForGood generates a special shareable link. When a ticket purchaser clicks that link, the code should automatically appear in the discount field at checkout — they don't need to type it in manually.
Where to find the shareable link: Go to Event > Discount Codes. Click Edit on the Discount code selected. The link will appear at the bottom of the page.
The link will look something like:https://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/[ID]?code=[YOURCODE]
Why a Discount Code May Not Pre-Fill
There are a few common reasons the code doesn't appear automatically when someone clicks the link:
The link was not copied correctly. Make sure you copy the link directly from the Discount Codes page using the "Copy Link" button — do not manually construct the URL, as the code parameter must be formatted exactly.
The discount code dates have expired. Go to Event > Discount Codes and confirm the code's active date range includes today.
The ticket purchaser navigated away and returned via a different URL. If the purchaser bookmarked the base auction URL and returned to it later (without the code in the URL), the code will not pre-fill. They will need to click the original link again or enter the code manually.
Browser caching or redirect stripping. Some email clients (particularly corporate ones) strip URL parameters for security reasons. If this is happening, instruct recipients to click the link from a personal device or webmail.
The code is linked to a specific ticket type. If the purchaser selects a different ticket type than the one the code is assigned to, the discount will not apply. Verify the code is set to "All Tickets" or confirm purchasers are selecting the correct ticket type.
Verifying Discount Code Purchasers
After your event, you may notice that purchasers who used a discount code don't appear with a "Discount Code" label in some reports. Here's how to confirm who used your code:
Go to Reports > Tickets.
Look for the Discount Code column. If the column is not visible, click Customize Columns and add it.
Purchasers who used a discount code will show the code name in that column.
Note on guest list: Ticket purchasers who used a discount code appear on the guest list only if the ticket type had "Collect Guest Info" enabled. If discount code purchasers are not appearing on your guest list, check Event > Tickets > [Ticket Type] and confirm that option is checked.
Setting Up a Complimentary (Free) Ticket Code
To create a code that makes a ticket completely free:
Go to Event > Discount Codes > Create Discount Code.
Set the discount type to Percentage and enter 100.
Assign it to the specific ticket type (or all tickets).
Set a usage limit if you want to cap how many people can use it.
Copy the generated link to share with recipients.
A purchaser using a 100% code will still need to add a credit card to complete registration — the card will not be charged, but it is required for bidder registration.
