Let's Learn
This article answers the most common questions from bidders using the updated BiddingForGood experience.
Bidding
How do I place a bid?
Open the item you want to bid on, enter your bid amount, and select Place Bid. You'll need to be logged in and have a credit card on file to bid. Your card is not charged until the auction closes and items are awarded. What is a maximum bid, and how does it work?
When placing a bid, you can enter a maximum bid — the highest amount you're willing to pay. The system will automatically bid on your behalf in increments up to that maximum to keep you in the lead. You will only be charged your actual winning bid, not your maximum. For example: if you set a maximum of $200 and the next competing bid is $130, the system will place $140 on your behalf. You are charged $140 if you win, not $200.Where can I see my current bids?
Log in to your bidder account at biddingforgood.com. Select your name in the top right corner, then choose My Bids. This shows all items where you have an active bid, including whether you are currently winning or have been outbid. How do I add an item to my watchlist?
On any item page, look for the bookmark / save icon (a ribbon or heart icon) near the item title. Click it to save the item to your watchlist. To view your watchlist, log in and select your name in the top right > Watchlist. How do I share an item with someone?
On any item page, look for the Share button or icon. This copies a direct link to that item which you can send via email, text, or social media. Can I see all auctions on BiddingForGood, not just one organization's?
Yes. Visit biddingforgood.com and select Browse Auctions from the menu to see all public auctions currently accepting bids. Individual organizations may choose to make their auction private (invitation only), in which case it won't appear in the public listing.
Registration & Account
Do I need to register to browse items?
No — you can browse items without logging in. You only need to register and add a credit card to place bids or purchase tickets. Can I pay using a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) or Fidelity Charitable account?
Items won in a charitable auction are generally not eligible for a charitable deduction (because you received something of value in return), so DAF grants typically cannot be used for auction purchases. For donations made during an auction (not bids), please check directly with your DAF provider — policies vary. BiddingForGood's checkout currently accepts major credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.Why was my bid declined?
Bids require a valid credit card on file. Common reasons a bid might not go through: your card has expired, the billing address doesn't match, or your bank flagged the transaction. To update your card, go to your account settings > Payment Methods. If the issue persists, try a different card or contact your bank to authorize the charge.
Payments & Receipts
When is my credit card charged?
For online auction items, your card is charged after the auction closes and the organization processes payments — usually within a few days of the close date. For Buy It Now and ticket purchases, payment is processed immediately at checkout.I see a charge on my card but I don't see it in my BiddingForGood account. What happened?
This can happen if the purchase was completed but the confirmation page didn't load correctly. Log in to your account and check My Purchases. If the purchase isn't listed but the charge appeared on your card, contact the organization directly — they can verify the transaction in their Auction Manager. How do I request a receipt or tax letter?
When items are closed out by the organization, you'll automatically receive a confirmation email. For additional receipts or official donation acknowledgment letters, contact the organization that ran the auction — BiddingForGood Support cannot issue tax letters on their behalf.
